Many students and their parents worry about the cost of a college education. College is a huge investment, and the cost of attendance across the country continues to go up. One way to start lowering the cost of a college education is to look for and apply for scholarships.

There are thousands of scholarships out there. Some are large scholarships that are well publicized, while others are lesser known. My goal is to share some lesser-known scholarships with my readers every Saturday.

Here are your scholarships for Saturday, May 31, 2014. Don’t wait. Apply for these great scholarships today!

The Lee Steinberg, P.C. Law Scholarship
Sponsor: Lee Steinberg, P.C.
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: June 1, 2014
Eligibility: Applicants must be a current undergraduate student at an accredited college or university in the U.S., plan to go onto law school and have a 3.0 GPA.
Requirements: Write a 500-100 essay that answers what you hope to accomplish with a law degree and a copy of an unofficial transcript.

Liljegren Law Group Military Family Scholarship
Sponsor: Liljegren Law Group
Amount: Two (2) $500 Scholarship
Deadline: June 5, 2014
Eligibility: Students must be enrolled at an accredited high school, college or university in the U.S., must be an be in the last year of high school or enrolled in undergraduate or graduate school, age 17 years or older, a Military member, veteran, or have a parent or spouse who is or was in the military, and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Requirements: Submit a 300-500 word essay.

Old School Value Investor

Amount: $500
Deadline: June 5, 2014
Eligibility: Student must be enrolled at an accredited college or university in the U.S., age 17 years or older, be enrolled as a Business or Finance major, carry a status of “good standing” (i.e. currently enrolled) and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Requirements: Write a 1,000 word investment thesis on any publicly traded stock.

USDish Scholarship
Sponsor: USDish.com
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: June 7, 2014
Eligibility: Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident of the United States, may not be an associate (employee) or direct relative of an associate of any division of USDish.com, and either a high school senior entering ollege in the Fall with a 2.5 GPA or current freshman, sophomore, junior or senior in college with a 2.5 GPA.
Requirements: Write a 300-500 word article about which TV character you would most like to have as a college professor and why, post your article on the official USDish Facebook page and like the USDish Facebook page.

Bruce Lee Foundation Scholarship
Sponsor: Bruce Lee Foundation
Amount: $1,000 – possibility of multiple awards
Deadline: June 13, 2014
Eligibility: Students must be 16 years old or older and will be attending a two-year college, four-year university, or licensed trade and vocational school in the United States. The scholarship is open to high school seniors and above.
Requirements: Completed application, answer some questions, and provide two letters of recommendation.

Abbott and Fenner Annual Scholarship
Sponsor: Abbott and Fenner Business Consultants
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: June 14, 2014
Eligibility: Must be a high school junior, senior or currently registered in any accredited post secondary institution.
Requirements: Write an essay between 500 and 1,000 words on the topic they provide.

The Brad’s Deals Scholarship
Sponsor: Brad’s Deals
Amount: Five Finalists – $2,000 each
Deadline: June 15, 2014
Eligibility: High school seniors and undergraduate students, U.S. citizen or permanent resident, currently enrolled in school and have a 3.0 GPA. Unfortunately, the scholarship is not open to residents of Rhode Island or Tennessee.
Requirements: Write a 500 word essay explaining how your college experience is or will be enabled by remarkable frugality, ingenuity, effort or thrift.

Mind on My Money
Sponsor: Do Something
Amount: $7,500. There is also a chance to win a $2,500 scholarship.
Deadline: June 15, 2014
Eligibility: Open only to U.S. or Canadian citizens or person who reside in the 50 United States, District of Columbia or Canada, regardless of citizenship, and be younger than 26 years old as of the last date of the entry.
Requirements: To qualify for the $7,500 scholarships, participant must run a financial education workshop (information will be provided after signing up), invite your friends or peers, follow the guide provided and report back by about the workshop. Reporting back can include submitting a picture or writing a few sentences about the workshop. To be eligible for the $2,500 scholarship, students must attend a workshop and then text a keyword to a number provided by the workshop presenter.

Taylor Gifts Academic Scholarship

Amount: $1,000
Deadline: June 15, 2014
Eligibility: Students must be a freshman, sophomore or junior currently enrolled in a university in the United States.
Requirements: Write an essay between 750-800 words answering one of four prompts provided by the company.

#ROCKtheSAT Scholarship
Sponsor: Testive
Amount: $500
Deadline: June 15, 2014 – Scholarship is offered the 15th of every month
Eligibility: Students must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, thirteen years of age or older as of the date of entry, and be a high school junior who expects to take the SAT in the next 12 months, and have a Testive account (or create an account – it’s free!).
Requirements: You receive one entry for each day you answer a question and one entry for each student you successfully refer during the month campaign.
