Military Scholarships

The brave men and women of the Armed Forces sacrifice a lot for our nation. Many scholarship providers want to give back by offering scholarships open only to military service members, veterans, and their dependents. Below are scholarships for military service members, veterans, and military and veteran spouses and dependents.

Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation Scholars Program
Sponsor: Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation
Amount: Up to $6,250
Closing Date: Monthly – all documents due to the program team by the 15th of each month
Description: Program is open to children – whether natural, by marriage or adoption – who have lost a parent in the line of military duty, during combat or peacetime. All branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard) and all components (active, reserve and guard are covered).

Educational Benefits for Children of Deceased Veterans and Others
Sponsor: Delaware Department of Education
Amount: Tuition and fees at your college (see website for specific details)
Closing Date: Completed application is due 6-8 weeks before classes begin
Description: Program is open to residents of the state of Delaware between the ages of 16 and 24 years of age whose parent was a resident of Delaware at the time of death or declaration of mission in action or prisoner of war status.

Wells Fargo Veterans Emergency Grant Program
Sponsor: Wells Fargo
Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: There is no application deadline, but grants will be awarded on an ongoing basis until funds are exhausted.
Description: Grant program is open to honorably-discharged veterans and spouses of disabled veterans who have served in the United States military. Applicant must be a student who is already enrolled in full-time undergraduate or graduate study.

Huddle for Heroes: Make a Card of Appreciation or Letter for Military Service Members, Veterans, and their Families

American Legion – Department of Kansas Scholarships

Description: Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors and current college students from the state of Kansas. In addition to general scholarships, there are scholarships open to children of veterans, Scouts, athletes, and students with talent in music and public speaking.

Description: Scholarship is open to VFW Auxiliary members, their spouses, or children to pursue a college degree or a career direction at technical school.

Heroes’ Legacy Scholarships

Description: Scholarship is open to dependent unmarried children under the age of 23 of active duty personnel, Reserve/Guard, and retired military members, or survivors of service members who died while on active duty. Applicant must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a full-time undergraduate program leading to a bachelor’s degree at an accredited U.S. college or university in the fall term of 2020.

Description: Applicant must be a dependent, unmarried child under the age of 23 of an active duty, reserve/guard or retired military member or survivors of service members who died while on active duty or survivors of individuals who died while receiving retired pay from the military. Student must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in the fall of 2020 in a full-time undergraduate program of study leading to a Bachelor’s degree.

Jesse Brown Scholarship

Closing Date: February 28, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to volunteers who are age 21 or younger and have volunteered for a minimum of 730 hours over a span of five years at a VA medical center.

Tillman Scholar

Description: Scholarship program is open to veterans and active-duty military service members, and current spouses of veterans or active-duty service members who are full-time undergraduate or graduate students.

Description: Scholarships are open to family members (children and spouses) of qualified Surface Navy sailors who are/will be enrolled in undergraduate study.

Children of Warriors National Presidents’ Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who are daughters, sons, grandsons, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, great-grandsons or veterans who served in the Armed Forces during WWI, WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War, Lebanon and Grenada, Panama, or Desert Shield/Storm Gulf/War on Terrorism.

Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation Veterans Scholarships

Amount: Up to $2,000
Closing Date: March 1, 2020
Description: Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors and current college students from Illinois who are either veterans or a child or grandchild of a veteran or active-duty military member. In addition to the general scholarships, there are specific scholarships for Nursing majors and students who participate in a Junior ROTC program.

Non-Traditional Student Scholarship
Sponsor: American Legion Auxiliary
Amount: $2,000
Closing Date: March 1, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to non-traditional students returning to the classroom after some period of time in which his/her formal education was interrupted or a non-traditional student who is just beginning his/her education at a later point in life. Applicant must be a member of The American Legion, Auxiliary, or Sons of The American Legion.

Spirit of Youth Scholarship Fund
Sponsor: American Legion Auxiliary
Amount: Up to $5,000
Closing Date: March 1, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to junior members of the American Legion who are high school seniors with at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicant must submit an essay on what they will do to make their college or university a better place, as well recommendations from their principal or guidance counselor, a member of the clergy, and two other adult citizens (a total of four recommendations).

Tailhook Educational Foundation Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to high school graduates and children of a current or former Naval Aviator, Naval Fight Officer, or Air-crewman OR children/grandchildren of individuals who served on board a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier.

Gilman-McCain Scholarship
Sponsor: Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State
Amount: $5,000
Closing Date: March 3, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to undergraduate child dependents of an active duty service member to study or intern abroad on a credit-bearing program. This deadline is for students studying or interning abroad during May 2020 and April 2021.

Coast Guard Foundation Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to unmarried dependent children of enlisted men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard. Applicant must be applying to college or currently in college and working towards their first undergraduate degree, listed in Coast Guard DEERS, and under the age of 23 when applying.

Laura W. Bush Scholarship

Closing Date: March 15, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current college students who are a child or stepchild of a current or former crew member of USS Texas (SSN 775). Applicant must be unmarried and under the age of 24 on March 15.

Nautilus Scholarship

Closing Date: March 15, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current college students who are a child/stepchild or grandchild of a former crew member of the USS Nautilus. Applicant must be unmarried and under the age of 24 on March 15.

USS Hampton Scholarship

Amount: $1,500
Closing Date: March 15, 2020
Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current college students who are children or stepchildren of a crew member or former crew member of USS Hampton (SSN 767). Applicant must be unmarried and under the age of 24 on March 15.

Military Scholarships

Description: Scholarship is open to veterans and active members of the U.S. military who are enrolled at a private or public educational institution, and working towards a certificate, diploma, or degree.

API Study Abroad and Intern Abroad Scholarships

Closing Date: April 1, 2020
Description: Scholarships are open to API program participants. There are multiple scholarships with specific requirements – see website for details. In addition to general scholarships, there are scholarships specifically open to community college students, military veterans, non-traditional students, students with disabilities, minority students, LGBTQ students, STEM majors, and student athletes.

Daniel E. Lambert Memorial Scholarship

Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current college students who are residents of Maine and have a parent or grandparent who is a veteran.

H&P Veterans Helping Veterans Scholarships

James V. Day Scholarship
