Military Scholarships

The brave men and women of the Armed Forces sacrifice a lot for our nation. Many scholarship providers want to give back by offering scholarships open only to military service members, veterans, and their dependents. Below are scholarships for military service members, veterans, and military and veteran spouses and dependents.

Military Line Student Ethics Scholarship Award
Sponsor: Better Business Bureau Connecticut
Amount: Varies
Closing Date: February 1, 2021
Description: Scholarship is open to Connecticut residents who are high school students or adult learners and are in a military family, which includes being a dependent or spouse. Students and adult learners may apply as early as their junior year of high school or as late as the end of college freshman year.

Green Poster Contest
Sponsor: Concert on the Green
Amount: Up to $500
Closing Date: February 12, 2021
Description: Contest is open to students in Clay County, Florida in grades 4-12. Applicant must create a poster on the theme, “A Symphonic Celebration of the Arts.” In addition to the general contest, there is a category for a poster that displays the theme in a way that honors the military.

American Legion – Department of Kansas Scholarships
Sponsor: The American Legion – Department of Kansas
Amount: Varies
Closing Date: February 15, 2021
Description: Scholarships are open to graduating high school seniors and current college students from the state of Kansas. In addition to general scholarships, there are scholarships open to children of veterans, Scouts, athletes, and students with talent in music and public speaking.

Continuing Education Scholarship
Sponsor: Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary
Amount: $1,000
Closing Date: February 15, 2021
Description: Scholarship is open to VFW Auxiliary members, their spouses, or children to pursue a college degree or a career direction at technical school.

Heroes’ Legacy Scholarships
Sponsor: Fisher House Foundation
Amount: Varies
Closing Date: February 17, 2021
Description: Scholarship is open to dependent unmarried children under the age of 23 of active duty personnel, Reserve/Guard, and retired military members, or survivors of service members who died while on active duty. Applicant must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a full-time undergraduate program leading to a bachelor’s degree at an accredited U.S. college or university in the fall term of 2021.

Scholarships for Military Children
Sponsor: Fisher House Foundation
Amount: $2,000
Closing Date: February 17, 2021
Description: Applicant must be a dependent, unmarried child under the age of 23 of an active duty, reserve/guard or retired military member or survivors of service members who died while on active duty or survivors of individuals who died while receiving retired pay from the military. Student must be enrolled, or planning to enroll, in the fall of 2021 in a full-time undergraduate program of study leading to a Bachelor’s degree.

Jesse Brown Scholarship
Sponsor: Disabled American Veterans
Amount: Up to $20,000
Closing Date: February 28, 2021
Description: Scholarship is open to volunteers who are age 21 or younger and have volunteered for a minimum of 730 hours over a span of five years at a VA medical center.

Gilman-McCain Scholarship
Sponsor: Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State
Amount: $5,000
Closing Date: March 2, 2021
Description: Scholarship is open to undergraduate child dependents of an active duty service member to study or intern abroad on a credit-bearing program.

Clifford H. “Ted” Rees, Jr. Scholarship
Sponsor: Clifford H. “Ted” Rees, Jr. Scholarship Foundation
Amount: $2,000
Closing Date: June 1, 2021
Description: Scholarship is open to students enrolled in a HVACR training program at an accredited school. In addition to the general scholarship, there is a scholarship specifically for military veterans and students in Florida.

Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation Scholars Program
Sponsor: Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation
Amount: Up to $6,250
Closing Date: Monthly – all documents due to the program team by the 15th of each month
Description: Program is open to children – whether natural, by marriage or adoption – who have lost a parent in the line of military duty, during combat or peacetime. All branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard) and all components (active, reserve and guard are covered).

Educational Benefits for Children of Deceased Veterans and Others
Sponsor: Delaware Department of Education
Amount: Tuition and fees at your college (see website for specific details)
Closing Date: Completed application is due 6-8 weeks before classes begin
Description: Program is open to residents of the state of Delaware between the ages of 16 and 24 years of age whose parent was a resident of Delaware at the time of death or declaration of mission in action or prisoner of war status.

Wells Fargo Veterans Emergency Grant Program
Sponsor: Wells Fargo
Amount: Up to $1,000
Closing Date: There is no application deadline, but grants will be awarded on an ongoing basis until funds are exhausted.
Description: Grant program is open to honorably-discharged veterans and spouses of disabled veterans who have served in the United States military. Applicant must be a student who is already enrolled in full-time undergraduate or graduate study.
